Prof. Dr. Edgar A. Vallar, a full-time faculty member of the Physics Department of De La Salle University (DLSU) currently co-chairs the Applied Research for Community, Health and Environment Resilience and Sustainability (ARCHERS) research group belonging to the Center for Natural Science and Environmental Research (CENSER) of the College of Science of DLSU.  Dr. Vallar is the founding president of the Researchers for Clean Air (RESCUEAIR, Inc.), a non-government organization (NGO) composed of academics and researchers from the Philippines’ top research and educational institutes along with sitting in various technical working groups of the Department of Science & Technology (DOST) and the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR).  The current research of Dr. Vallar focuses on clouds, aerosols, and air quality (using LIDAR, Earth-Observing Satellites, drones, Sunphotometry, DOAS, Air Sampling, SEM/EDX and Air Quality Modeling) along with its correlation with human health.  Dr. Vallar also does cost-benefit analysis studies applied to air quality, transport, solid waste and energy. ARCHERS develops fluorescence setups for bioaerosols, water quality, and plant studies.  Moreover, the group is building reliable, robust, and cost-effective weather and air quality instrumentation.  ARCHERS is also part of a university-wide group doing atmospheric pollutant emission studies along with climate change and disaster preparedness projects for the Philippine government. Aside from teaching different Physics topics (lecture and laboratory) to undergraduate (UG) and graduate students (GS), Dr. Vallar serves as a thesis adviser to both undergraduate and graduate students in the thesis/dissertation. Dr. Vallar also performs different administrative tasks to represent the Physics Department in different university committees (e.g., recruitment, library, etc) as assigned by the Chairperson. From 2017-present, Dr. Vallar co-manages the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-funded Transnational Education (TNE) program of De La Salle University (DLSU) with Liverpool Hope University (LHU). This includes representing DLSU in meetings locally and abroad along with screening students recommended for CHED-funded TNE scholarships. This task also includes promoting the TNE program and recruiting students to enter the program. Starting September 2022, Dr. Vallar became the Research and Graduate Program Coordinator of the DLSU Physics Department. He manages the graduate course offerings of the Department, communicates with the GS students, evaluates, and approves the different GS forms they submit. It also includes recruiting students into the GS programs. As the research coordinator, Dr. Vallar is tasked with promoting the research activities of the Department outside of DLSU. He makes contacts with other institutions (e.g., academic, industry, government) to establish MOUs and MOA whenever possible.
