More than 178 Member States of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recognized the successful conduct of the first-ever International Nuclear Science Olympiad at the plenary of the 68th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria.

After its successful pioneer run at the New Clark City in the Philippines, the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) will hop on to its second leg in Malaysia next year. The Malaysian delegates eagerly received the INSO globe at the Turn-over Ceremony at the close of the first-ever INSO on August 6 at the SMX Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga.

And here at last, the nuclear olympians! Arriving from various parts of the Asia-Pacific region, 55 student contenders from 14 countries will vie for gold at the 1st International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) held from August 1 to 6 at New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac and at Clark Freeport in Angeles, Pampanga.

The 1st International Nuclear Science Olympiad concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony hosted by Ms. Gel Miranda of DOST-STII and Mr. Kurt Solis of DOST-PNRI. The event featured a mesmerizing light show performance by Legato Visual Performing Arts, followed by a highly-charged recap video that touched the audience. The ceremony culminated in the much-awaited announcement of the medalists, marking the end of this historic competition.

The intellectual duel has concluded. On the fifth day of the 1st International Nuclear Science Olympiad, our brilliant student-participants finally laid down their pencils. Their journey continued with an exciting excursion to Quezon City. There, they engaged in a lively cultural exchange with fellow young minds from Philippine Science High School - Central Luzon Campus, San Francisco High School, Quezon City Science High School, and Miriam College High School. Through team-building activities and shared experiences, bonds were forged and friendships deepened.

Meanwhile, it’s the Team Leader’s turn to embark on a tour. Representing countries that are new to, exploring, or already benefiting from nuclear power, the Team Leaders saw the Philippine Nuclear Power Plant—officially known as the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant—as a marvel.

After a gruelling experimental exam, the participants of the 1st International Nuclear Science Olympiad gets a well-deserved break with a tour on the beach and a historic landmark in Southeast Asia: the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, the first of its kind in the region.

As we continue to inspire brilliance and empower the youth, 55 students rise to the challenge of the experimental exam during the second day of #INSO2024. Competing students were tasked to analyze data and answer questions related to sedimentation patterns in the environment and radiation protection.

Eight clinched gold, 13 bagged silver, and 16 won bronze among 55 contenders from 14 Asia-Pacific countries.

After four days of rolling with the rigors of the first ever International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO), the participants finally had their much-needed rest and recreation on Day 5 of their olympiad journey at the Innovation Center of the Miriam College in Quezon City.

They are the cream of the crop in the field of nuclear science out of all the students in their respective countries. But contenders to the first International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) went through rigorous preparations, according to coaches.
